Dutch artist
Martine Johanna makes fashion-influenced surreal drawings using biodegradable materials like wood, charcoal, paper, pencil and water-based inks. She's based in Amsterdam and has worked with many clients including OBEY and
Playboy.
Her work exudes an erotic, fluid-like, sensual quality, which verges on the dark dreams and fantasies of a teenage girl's imagined future in womanhood. She merges 1960s psychedelia with a modern twist in a way that is so successful, the viewer has the opportunity to slip into their imagination to create their own imagery in their heads as they take in
Johanna's art in whatever space they view it, whether in her frequent gallery shows in the Amsterdam, or online, or in print. (And her craftsmanship of
drawing hands, is pretty amazing.)
